Basic Buttermilk Style Biscuits

Buttermilk Biscuits gluten free vegan

(Gluten free version - click here - pictured above), with vegan or vegetarian options! Will be in our gluten free cookbook coming soon!

1/4 cup wheat germ (can use more unbleached flour)
1 cup unbleached (or whole wheat flour – a little heavier)
3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp baking powder (can reduce to 2 tsp)
1/3 cup vegetable oil (or non-hydrogenated margarine)
1 cup soy milk
1/2 tsp sea salt (omit if using margarine)

Combine dry ingredients. If using oil, mix it with milk and stir into dry quickly just until mixed. (If using margarine, cut into dry ingredients, like pastry, stir in milk, etc.) For traditional biscuits: Roll out onto floured or oiled surface and cut into circle and place onto cookie sheet and bake at 375°F for 18 to 22 minutes, or golden brown.  For easy method just press dough into 9 x 9 pan and bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from heat and slice into biscuits if doing the ‘easy’ method. Let cool slightly and serve.
